Sad to say I'm in position to drop that amount of money, or even barrow that amount of money. I would, however, donate my time for the cause. _________________ The one and only true Mr. Wonx

Wow, I really appreciate people's willingness to donate to the cause. Unfortunately, as with any sort of investment, there's never any guarantee of profits or even a break-even return on investment. With the state of the industry as it is right now, I am currently even more unwilling to offer any sort of promises of returns. Selling shares in the project would be possible, I suppose, but for those reasons stated above, I feel that it's simply to high-risk for us to try to do it that way. Thank you for all of your offers though. _________________ Joe Chan

How much do Kidney's go for?
Maybe if we got enough Kidneys . . .
*****
Joke aside, how much would it be to just publish enough books for people who ordered them? Guaranteed sales - lets say 200 books were ordered. Does kind of 2 things - gives those who were looking forward to the book the book, and creates a rarety on the book that would kick the collectors value sky-high, possibly giving the money to fund a larger release.
"OMG - a 1st Printing SFRPG - Their's only 200 of these . . . I'm bidding $600 . . ."
Collectors dig these things. _________________ The one and only true Mr. Wonx

I'd put in an order for two. At least. _________________ "Fungah! Foiled again."

| i like the idea of the limited printing. i know i'd get two myself as well. but in regards to what The Emperor said, i don't know about other people, but i KNOW investments are risky. i'd be willing to consider buying a few shares anyway. i think the original author of the idea of shares didn't want a gurantee of return, but a gurantee of that possibility if it did well. |

| I'd get at least one, and got a friend that would throw down too. I don't know how much money I got to invest, but I would seriously consider buying shares too. |

I could probably say 6-7 for sure, my friend and I both bought 2 of the Red Star RPG because we felt that it probably wouldnt last past the initial printing, so I would do the same for this, plus at least 1 each for the rest of my group.
Back to the money thing, I think that the $$$ he "quoted" was for that kind of run plus the liscensing attached to it. _________________ The man with cheese is the man who wins. |

In regards to having a limited number printed, it was an option that we had considered. However, there is still a significant up-front cost that would be involved, but the total I think would end up being about 1/3 the cost of a full print run. Unless that up-front cost were divvied up in the per-unit cost for the limited run, LRG is unwilling to front the costs at this time. Dividing the up-front costs into the per-unit cost would make each unit roughly... $150, give or take a few dollars, if 200 units were ordered and sold.
The company is also unwilling to jeopardize the goodwill it currently holds with retailers, so it would be difficult to make the majority change their minds about putting out a limited release run if it's not going to go through distribution.
Its not that I don't want to do it. It's just that right as of this moment, our hands our tied. Sorry. _________________ Joe Chan

Well, I tried . . .
Anyone have a cousin Vini? We could try "presuading" the printing company to cut the costs . . .
Sad to say, I'm Irish / Scandenavian, so the name "Vini" never was even considered for any of my relatives . . . _________________ The one and only true Mr. Wonx

Stance is unfriendly. The licensing cost remains the same or possibly even increases. _________________ Angelita

But is it offset by lower production cost?
As I see it, here are the benefits...
1. Immediate sales with little or no overhead, rather that waiting years for the hardcopy market to improve. If the main book is ready to publish, it should be a snap to format it for PDF distribution. That should pave the way for the hardcopy suppliments.
2. Satify fan interest before it fades out completely. Street Fighter is quickly passing its prime. Stop and think -- most of us are adults who want to buy a product based on 1990's video game characters!
3. If LRG can afford to publish it as an e-book, they can keep the profits instead of paying off fan/investor loans.
My only suggestion is that if you do follow this path, don't go with that ridiculous locked-PDF stuff or strange watermarks. All it does is make the pirates want to crack it and spread it around. And please don't make it expensive -- maybe $15 or so -- otherwise it's just easier to rip it. |
