I've looked at it....it looks nice.

The biggest change I saw was:

You now have some choices when choosing talents for your discipline.

At first circle, you have 5 discipline talents that are mandatory, and you can choose one talent (out of about 5) from the FIRST optional list. Each discipline has different optional talents available.

At 2nd circle, you have one discipline talent, and you can choose one from either the FIRST or SECOND optional lists.

3rd & 4th are again one disc talent and one from either the FIRST or SECOND optional list.

5th circle and above, now you get one disc talent and one from the FIRST, SECOND, or THIRD list.

Not sure how 9th circle and above works. I'd imagine they have a new list there as well.

Now two 6 circle warriors can look completely different.

See, that's where I think RedBrick really screwed up the idea. "Two Steps Forward, One Step Back" is how I feel about just about every change they made.

ONLY the Discipline Talents count towards Circle Advancement. So in Third Edition, two Sixth Circle Warriors will have:

Anticipate Blow 6
Avoid Blow 6
Karma Ritual 6
Melee Weapons 6
Unarmed Combat 6
War Weaving 6
Wood Skin 6
Wound Balance 6

Temper Self 6

Did First Edition or Second Edition Warriors *always* raise the *exact same* 9 Talents to get to Sixth Circle? And don't get me started on which Talents they chose. Sky Raiders and Warriors make out pretty okay, but I really feel that Elementalists and Wizards in Third Edition are saddled with a number of completely useless Mandatory Talents.

Apparently, we made a lot of steps forward then, and I'd call two minus one a net gain.
I'd also call steps one might consider "backwards from 2nd edition" a net gain, in any case.

Anyone interested in a detailed comparison, as it seems this forum doesn't allow new registrations any more, follow the link (to the unofficial EDPT forums, where this was cross-posted) below, it provides a detailed comparion of the old and new advancement systems and what they mean for players. There's also opportunity for more discussion there, it seems these forums are more than dead.
