Hi Guys!
Seems like an eternity since someone posted on the LRGames Earthdawn Forum so I decided to post a new thread in hope that people will come back to share their experiences
I was wondering if any of you guys ever played or even gamemastered a game where there was actually some good Horrors?
I mean why not?
Horrors come in all kind of flavors :p
I mean they all have different thoughts, different likes and different agendas.
So let's debate it!
What do you guys think?
For you is it a possibility or just a lame idea?
Your thoughts! _________________ War is in my heart, Death is by my side |

One could argue that the Horrors are not necessarily evil. They do what they do in order to eat. They feed off of the emotions that they cause in other people.
In the campaign I am running now, I have decided that the Passions and the Horrors are the same type of entities. It is just that one of them feeds off of "good" emotions while the other feeds off of "bad" ones.
So, in that particular case, I suppose I do use "good" horrors in my game. Now, don't get me wrong, some of them go WAY too far in their "feeding" and begin to hurt people not just for the sustanance, but for the pleasure of it. In that respect they are just like any other Namegiver. _________________ ()}xxx{::::::>

It is indeed a possibility, I think its likely that Horrors for the most part feed on the darker emotions because they are easier to evoke, with some subtle manipulation.
So I do see no reason why horrors cant feed on the lighter emotions too. Thoguh Im sure that requires far more subtly. _________________ Loswaith

A friend of mine was just telling me how, in his game, he had the party encounter a fifty foot tall Horror. It was chewing on a troll arm and fanning itself with a tree it had ripped out of the ground. It was the most pleasant Horror they had ever encountered. Very sociable, a good conversationalist. It said that it really didn't like Barsaive's climate and was just waiting for the Scourge to end so it could go home.
Its motivation was to provide even the slightest fraction of a hesitation the next time they encountered a Horror in combat. _________________ "Take good care of my ship." - Alaria Festryl, First Circle Elven Thief, who had no business owning a riverboat |

Wow, you guys rock! Thank you for keeping the boards alive.
I'm replying to this post specifically, since we recently finished up an Earthdawn/Planescape crossover game, where horrors were an everyday occurrence and a necessary evil. The crossover, BTW, works very well -- and it was especially nice for us to get away from the stuff we wrote while still using the system we love so much.
We were originally from Barsaive, but due to circumstances outside our control, we were eventually based out of Sigil, the dimensional hub of the Planescape universe. That was after the GM sent us through planes like Hate to show us that, yes, there are worse places out there. We as characters had to quickly learn to live with the existence of Horrors in our everyday lives, or we wouldn't have very long lives to live.
Tieflings were treated as Horror-cross-Namegiver spawn, for example, and they were all over the place. The Demons and Devils of the Planescape universe were also rewritten as Horrors, many of whom are intelligent and hold considerable power in Sigil.
Though they were not necessarily "good" by definition, many of them were lawful. Some at least fought to maintain the status quo, though their reasons were mostly selfish (they wished to maintain their hold on power), so they wouldn't hesitate combat a true evil. As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, or something like that.
The GM also enjoyed introducing us to Namegivers who were by-and-large far more evil than the Horrors we encountered were.
And, of course, there were some truly 'good' Tieflings, so despite being half-Horror, they sided with heroes.
So, good Horrors? Totally plausible. :) _________________ Joe Chan
